Do you Know Studying Public Higher Education in Chile is very expensive?

...Yes, Chile's Higher education is very expensive
In Chile, There are 2 kinds of universities:

  • Private Universities: Universities which are economically independent, there are expensive study which students take, most of them are Upper-class-family students, student like these may study at these universities because of holding much money and pay for studying there and also there are student who doesn't get enough PSU scores to study in a Public University (you'll see why down below).
  • Public Universities: Universities which are recognize by the government and CRUCH (Rectors' Board of Universities of Chile), They depends on the subsidy from the government (Just 0,3%). Public Universities receives attends of Middle-and-Lower-Class-Family students which are not able to pay economically for studying, In order to study in a Public University, you have to take the PSU (Test of University selection) and get a minimal scores which each Public University asks.

What to pay for studying in a Public University?
  • Matriculation (US$ 230 a year)
  • Monthly Payment (US$ 292 - 420 per month, according to the career to study)
  • Tesis (some carrers only have it) (US$ 250 or more per tesis)
  • Degree (US$ 500 or more)
Values are relatives

Do you think is expensive for a student whom family earns US$390 monthly (Chile's Minimmun wage)?

Comment us:
  • Where are you from?
  • How much is the minimal wage in your country or average wage?
  • How much are you or have you paid for studying in a Public University?

Answering these questions will help us, Chile, a country, where the Public Higher Education is expensive, and We have to pay very much for studying there and We mustn't do so.

Thanks.
