In Chile, Students must get a TNE (Student National Card) to pay a less fare (about US$ 0,30) for tripping on microbuses going to school or university and going back home.
But holding this benefit has its price for university students:
- New students, who start to study in any university, have to obtain that card (US$ 5,70).
- Old students, 2nd or older grades, have to renew this card yearly (US$ 2,30).
- Any student, whon TNE card got lost, stolen, broken or damaged, has to ask for another TNE card as replace (US$ 7,50)
Students who study in school (1st to 12th grade) obtain their TNE card absolutely free.
Why do microbus drivers often repudiate students from schools and universities?
In Chile, Specially, Non-Santiago cities, the Governm
ent doesn't subsidy this means of transport through school fare, Microbuses and workers of such companies just subsidy this.
The non subsidy of the Government has made microbus drivers fight student, hit that student or simply discriminate student making them make a queue and be the last to get onto the microbus so they 'strap-hang' standing up and people, who paid total fare (US$ 1,3o in Santiago), trip 'sitting down' because of paying more.
That's the why Chilean Government subsidies only in Santiago, not other cities
"HEY STUDENTS:
The reducted or free tariff that Microbuses provides through all TNE card on circulation
IS FINANCED 100% BY THE SAME COMPANIES, OWNER AND DRIVER OF MICROBUSES OF IQUIQUE.
The government doesn't subsidy this benefit, so
HELP US KEEPING YOUR MEANS OF TRANSPORT AT GOOD CONDITION
FEDERATION OF HIGHER PUBLIC TRANSPORT OF IQUIQUE"
In Iquique, People tend to be "adjusted", because they get onto a microbus, seek some vacant seat to sit on, if there's one, they sit on there, if there's none, they simply get off the microbus and wait for another one or some case microbus driver of the bus make student seating stand up and give the seat to this person who is seeking a vacant seat.
Who deserves to be setting while tripping on a bus?
A student who has been studying all day long or A good-health person who has been taking just 2 hours to go on red tape?
