Subjects in Chilean Education

There's a list of subject schools teaches children:

Strong Subjects
  • Lenguaje (Language)
    Literature and reading (270 or more minutes a week)
  • Matemáticas (Math)
    Geometry, algebra, calculating, etc. (270 or more minutes a week)
  • Sociedad (Social Science)
    Histories of Chile and around the world, sciences of civilizations and living, geography (180 or more minutes a week)
  • Naturaleza (Nature Science)
    Biology, study of nature (180 or more minutes a week)
    This subject is divided in 3 subject (from 9th grade) Physics, Biology and Chemistry.

Foreign-Languages Subjects

English (180 or more minutes a week)
French (Closed from 2001 and replaced by adding time of English)

Spin-off Subjects
  • Análisis de texto o de literatura (Literature analysing)
    Language's Spin off
  • Geometría (Geometry)
    Math's spin off
Sub-Strong Subjects
  • Physical education (90 or more minutes a week)
    Making dances, excercises, sports, etc.
  • Art (90 minutes a week)
    There are 2 kinds:
    - Visual art: painting, drawing, etc.
    - Musical art: instrument playing
  • Technology (90 minutes or more)
    Analysing cases. (Before it was making crafts)
Other subjects:
  • Religion
    Family convivence, bibble reading, etc.
    This subject is optional, there are students that can't take this subject of an opposite religion he or she might belong to.

These subjects only works from 1st to 10th grades) 11th grades there are new subjects according to the career.
